Intentional Discipleship

Image
“Discipleship is a long obedience in the same direction.” —Eugene Peterson. How can I be a better disciple of Jesus in this trying season of life? I pray every day for God’s wisdom and guidance so I can be a better discipler to others. I pray to obey and know Him more, and then He leads me to the cross. Tears of gratitude, I am in awe of His grace and mercy. I have to be a disciple of Jesus Christ first and foremost in prayer, compassion, and humility. Recently, His Word in the Gospel books and Acts has brought me into another level of intimacy with Jesus. At 46, a single missionary has been in the field for at least 13 years now, with weaknesses in life, and yet He gives me a vision for intentional and genuine discipleship more than before. The call to discipleship is a call to live an extraordinary life - an extraordinary life that is rooted in an intimate relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ-- Pastor Edmund Chan.  Jesus' often invitation was, "Follow me."   Delightful Tidbits in July God’s love never wears out. The monthly cell group went very edifying to one another and glorifying to God as His unconditional love was shared with 12 young people. Singim steps up not only in planning but in executing our preparations.  Almost everyone has helped and I felt physically relaxed. My main duty at that moment was to share the Gospel. Dara initiated the aftercare.  The highlight of this gathering was neither the fun games nor the Cambodian food but God’s message of great love and the good fellowship. In the conclusion of the message, I let them watched a video clip of John 3:16 portrayed by a father and son https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjSio8jur2Y . Two of the young people have the plan to leave early and yet have changed their minds until everything was done then they left with a happier heart. Group ball games. Watching a heartfelt John 3:16 video  John 3:16 group puzzle contest. Fun Fellowship time! After...

" And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.” Matthew 21:22 Prayer is power through faith. Praise God for an answered prayer. We prayed for specific names of people, and all of them came on the launching of Shine cell ministry last week. As a result, some of them have decided to study the Bible, the rest are undecided yet all are willing to join the monthly cell fellowship. Satan was not happy; he caused discouragement and cast away confidence. The night before the big day came, I was so exhausted physically, mentally, and emotionally. However, as Psalm 120:1 says "I took my troubles to the Lord,...and He answered my prayer"(NLT). God’s sustaining grace gives me the energy to do what He wants me to do, even amid a difficult situation that we are currently facing with one of the disciples. We hoped for at least one person to study the Bible among the 10 who came, yet God gave us three! By His grace through faith, the power of prayer pre...

Finding Opportunity Let us stop thinking about what we cannot do but instead, let us find opportunity in the current season by facing the new normal with faith and not with fear : social distancing, frequent hand washing, wearing a mask, online ministry, and individual or small ministry gathering. Leakhena's sweet smile shows God's love in her life. This picture was recently taken after her depression. Leakhena, 25 years old, is currently working as house manager of a Christian girls’ home and a member at WABC church, which we were an instrumental of God. She was my teenage student and I spent time with her when she was under my class and later a colleague teacher. Leakhena came to me last week of April with a heavy heart, asking for prayer and help. At 16 years old, her mother died, she was in high school at that time.   She strove harder to finish her studies until she graduated from university. She fought life’s challenges as a teenager for her family and...

SHINE BSOP DumnangLaorKampuchea “For with God, nothing will be impossible.” Luke 1:37 The entrance of where Shine is on the middle right side. At the end of it is the market area. Before leaving for home assignment last year, I prayed for a place where Shine ministry would be. Even while at home I asked God to lead me to it as it is His ministry. The day after I arrived in Battambang, I drove my motorcycle and prayed around the area once again and asked for God’s prepared place for Shine and He led me to this nice place with a kind-hearted landlord who has helped carry my heavy stuff into his truck for free. God has answered our prayer favorably as the monthly rental is according to the budget.   Thus, I moved to the new place on the 26 th of February. This is a 3 floors building with 4 rooms, a kitchen, and a receiving space on the ground floor. I am staying in one of the rooms on the third floor. Three rooms are having the same size of 3x4 meter room and there is...
