A New Beginning
a New Beginning
Nika graduated from her six-month Discipleship Training School (DTS) at YWAM, Battambang, and got engaged to my friend, Gideon. It was a privilege to witness these two special occasions in Nika’s life. Nika is gifted in evangelism; she is passionate about sharing the Gospel of Jesus. She shared Jesus Christ with the villagers where she led a team to Preah Vihear province during her DTS field assignment; moreover, she doesn’t stop sharing Jesus with her family, relatives, and children. On Sunday at her house during our Bible Study, Nika shared the story of A Good Samaritan. Her father and aunty listened to God’s Word. I was silently praying for the Holy Spirit to use Nika powerfully while she was sharing Jesus Christ. When Nika, asked me to share more about the compassion and mercy of Jesus, our time was extended, and we had a Q & A where her aunty and her father received Jesus as their Savior and God; a new life begins in Jesus. Furthermore, there are thirty kids join in the Sunday school that Nika leads. Then, after a few weeks of believing Jesus, Nika’s family welcomed Gideon as part of their family where I stood as Gideon’s guardian during the engagement ceremony. I know Gideon for four years now; he is a teacher in one of the schools in Battambang from South Africa. Gideon and Nika are both parts of our Shine Cell Group ministry. They plan to get married in South Africa next month and later in Cambodia when the legal documents are ready. A new chapter in Nika’s life has just begun.
Dara graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Tourism from the
National University of Battambang (NUBB). She was delighted with her whole
family. All the sacrifices and hard work
paid off. Dara reminisced the past when she gathered empty bottles at school,
sold homemade biscuits at school, on the streets, in the markets, and cut the
grass so she could finish her studies. She testified God’s amazing grace to her
life despite her failure to obey God faithfully. At the entrance of the
university, I was surprised when she suddenly took off her sandals, put on her
graduation toga to her mother, and bowed down to pay respect to her mother,
grandmother, and me. This is a Cambodian tradition. Aym, Dara’s mother was in tears. Now, Dara is
working as a new government High School teacher. This new season in Dara’s life
as a wife, a mother to her one-year-old son, and a teacher is a great privilege
from the Lord, and she knows that these all come with a huge responsibility.
Kimseng and Panha, Sreyleak, and Rath got married. God gave me the opportunity to spend time with these two couples prior to their wedding days. Kimseng and Panha were my Bible study students at LOHI and got baptized also. But since both of them are studying on weekends and working on workdays, they have no time to go to church. However, sometimes they join our Cell Group at Shine. Now, Kimseng commit to taking part in our Sunday Cell Group program, while Panha is still busy on weekends after their wedding last May. Sreyleak and Rath were able to join our Cell Group, though it is seldom. Sreyleak is working in another province they live outside Battambang. Please pray that both of these couples will grow in their faith and obey Jesus Christ wherever they are.
Cambodia Teachers Community (CTC) Training went great, praise the Lord! Thank you for praying, my main responsibility was to coordinate the preparations for the training. The leaders from International Schools Project (ISP) facilitated the training. Now, the groundwork has to continue. Meeting the teachers at their available time is not easy, but I believe God is the One who is working in the lives of the teachers here in Battambang. Our objective is to disciple the believing teachers to reach out to their colleagues at work.
Shine intentional discipleship ministry is moving by God’s grace. In our Cell Group worship, and fellowship we start to memorize Scriptures. Even though Sreylen and Sreylis are not believers yet, they started memorizing Bible verses as part of the message. Sopheak is stepping up as he is helping me with the aftercare. Singim living her faith and relationship with Jesus as she applies the truth from what she learned from the Bible in her daily life as her actions and character show it. God is using Singim both at Shine and at the school where she is working; she is a huge help to me personally. I am grateful to God as she also begins to bring her friend, Chyhua, to the Shine center.
Makara Rung, a designer, approached me one day, and she asked if I can disciple her. Makara wants to know God deeper. She is a believer and joined Shine’s big events, like Christmas and Banquet celebrations. I met her Christian parents and sister at her first fashioned show, designing traditional and contemporary clothes, and wedding gowns. Makara is studying Bible with me every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon after her office work for an hour for almost two months now. She has memorized 7 Bible verses as part of our Bible study lesson.
Mii Oun, asked, “Is there really a God?” Her broken marriage
caused so much pain in her heart. I’ve known her through Leakhena. Now, she began to seek the Lord
and studied the Bible with me every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. She’s a
buy & sells businesswoman with a strong personality.
